What is this? What are you doing?

I am an author, illustrator, web designer and teacher, and here you’ll find some more information of the sort of things I do. Please check the links above for more about each, or keep an eye on the blog for what I’m up to.

Words + Pictures

Illustration, published work and comics

I’ve been drawing and writing since I was tiny, and had my first book published by Scholastic when I was 16, and has since been translated into multiple languages. I’ve carried on since then, with my latest book, ‘How to make manga characters’ being shortlisted for the Society of Author’s Educational Writers Prize 2009.

Web

Design, code and everything inbetween.

I’ve been building my own websites since I was fifteen, and since then have been doing it for other people too. Being an artist as well as a programmer, I’ve got skills as a designer as well as a coder. I’m primarily a frontend developer, focusing on html, css and wordpress, but I have been steadily increasing my jQuery, js, ajax and php skills.

Teaching

Arts workshops and festival madess.

I’ve been teaching drawing and art workshops for a couple of years now, at arts festivals, libraries, schools and youth clubs. I particularly focus on beginners manga/comics workshops, and pride myself on being able to give even kids who don’t think they can draw at all the skills to get started drawing. I’ve been involved in community collaborative projects, particularly with North Yorkshire youth arts group CYC. I am also a singing and craft tutor with youth folk arts gang Shooting Roots.
